The chapter announces that Mancuso decides to leave town as the family flees. Their later call reveals that he had not realized they stayed another night; the narrative then shows his renewed distress and abrupt disconnection while George cannot understand his reaction. Mancuso brings his trip forward, extending the two strands’ different responses to the same reported danger.
Alignment makes the difference in knowledge available to the reader rather than to both characters. Their departures become connected responses with different motives and understandings; the later conversation adds more than a coincidental clock match.
The source in context.
The chapter aligns the family’s flight with Mancuso’s decision to leave town, then follows their call and his accelerated departure. A celebration at Kathy’s mother’s house gives way to another reported episode, reopening the apparent safety of escape.

Its limit
Chapter 24 explicitly dates the flight January 14 at LF2574; this chapter is headed January 15 while opening at the same moment. The study retains that inconsistency and analyzes the asserted alignment without claiming the actual timing is resolved.
