Turn a metaphor into decisions readers can distinguish ↗

Later in the chapter, Collins uses Gillette and Circuit City accounts to distinguish a capable person in a poorly matched role from a person who should leave. The bus’s seats let him amend an interpretation that would otherwise collapse every personnel problem into removal.

A useful metaphor can become more precise on its return: the later passage adds a decision the first telling left compressed.

Give the recap two separate jobs ↗

The chapter’s Key Points group restates the three-circle understanding and the distinction between aspiration and actual capability. Its Unexpected Findings group switches to contrasts such as the time needed to arrive at an apparently simple idea and the lack of strategic differentiation claimed for the study groups.

The two groups tell a skimming reader both what the model is and which assumptions the chapter means to challenge.

How to read the labels

Reviewed examples have a source-linked editorial interpretation. Detected candidates are exact passages or structures retrieved by an explicit rule and still need interpretation. Neither label establishes a cause of bestseller longevity. No missing text is counted as a negative example.
