After a magazine’s categorical accusation, Connell distinguishes reports about access to alcohol from accounts of Reno’s behavior and drinking. He contrasts Reno, mule packers, Benteen, Newell and Burkman, comments on the latter’s recollections and concludes that the accusation overstates what can be said.
