The title page credits Gordon W. Prange in collaboration with Donald M. Goldstein and Katherine V. Dillon. Their signed introduction says that, after Prange's death in 1980, these former students condensed his much larger manuscript into the present volume and accepted responsibility for editorial errors. The analysis therefore treats its narrative as the credited collaborative book rather than attributing every sentence or structural choice to Prange alone.
